Pepsi-Challenge 60 Presented by Enders Construction and Design to
Construct

(Slinger, WI); June 22, 2008 - David
Prunty used a late race pass on Collin Bamke to capture the victory
in the Pepsi Challenge 60-lap late model feature presented by Enders
Construction and Design to Construct at the Slinger Super Speedway
Sunday night and afterwards dedicated the victory to Bob Fish, a
longtime track and car sponsor who passed away earlier in the week.
Dennis Prunty charged into the lead at the drop of the green flag
while Collin Bamke advanced into second place while Mike Meyerhofer,
Nick Schumacher, and David Prunty raced into the top five by the
fifth lap. Dennis Prunty and Bamke were able to pull ahead from the
field while Schumacher went to work on Meyerhofer for third.
Schumacher was able to make the move around Meyerhofer for the spot
on lap 13, bringing David Prunty along with him in fourth. On lap
fifteen, David Prunty eased to the inside of Schumacher, taking the
third position while Dennis Prunty continued to set the pace with
Bamke close behind. Bamke made numerous looks to the inside of
Dennis Prunty for the lead before deciding to take to the outside
line on lap 20. Bamke was able to keep his car wound up in the upper
groove and he used it to execute a pass for the lead on lap 21 while
David Prunty began to close in from third.
The leaders encountered lapped traffic just past the halfway mark
and Dennis Prunty made his charge as Bamke came upon lapped cars
racing side by side. Prunty ducked the nose of his car to the inside
of Bamke as they exited turn two but Bamke was determined to keep
the point and he quickly dove between the lapped machines, entering
the third turn three wide with Prunty right on his bumper. All
drivers did a tremendous job of holding their line and Bamke
maintained the lead with Prunty on his tail while David Prunty moved
closer to the lead duo. David Prunty began to challenge Dennis
Prunty for the second spot and the brothers waged a spirited battle
for the position while Bamke continued to set the pace. David Prunty
came out ahead in the duel and set his sights on Bamke for the lead
as the laps wound down. David Prunty sliced into Bamke’s lead as
Bamke’s car began to wash up the speedway exiting the corners. With
two laps to go, Prunty pulled alongside on the frontstretch and
while both cars were glued side by side in the turn, Prunty was able
to gain the advantage down the backstretch to take the lead. Prunty
ran the final lap unchallenged and raced to the victory ahead of
Bamke and Dennis Prunty. Mike Egan and Nick Schumacher completed the
top five. Mike Meyerhofer finished sixth followed by Dale Prunty and
Lowell Bennett. Dan Jung and Fred Winn rounded out the top ten.
Jamie Wallace won the 30-lap late model semi-feature over Gary
LaMonte and Jerry Eckhardt. Randy Schuler was fourth and Race McComb
finished fifth. Dale Prunty was the winner of the late model fast
dash while early rain showers washed out qualifying.
Scott Ascher nailed down his first feature victory of the season as
he took top honors in the limited late model 30-lap main event.
Jerry Eckhardt paced the opening laps ahead of Ascher, Jim Dragich,
Rob Braun, and Brad Keith. Ascher began to pressure Eckhardt for the
lead while Dragich, Keith, and Braun all fought hard for third place
while Steve Apel, Dave McCardle, Jon Reynolds Jr. and Chris
Ratajczyk began to advance forward. Ascher was able to duck to the
inside of Eckhardt to take the lead on lap nineteen. A lap later,
McCardle slid sideways off turn two while battling with Apel and
after the field bottled up behind him, a piece of the bodywork on
Chris Blawat’s car came loose, necessitating a caution flag. Ascher
was able to maintain the lead on the restart over Eckhardt as Keith
battled with Dragich for third just before the caution flag appeared
again for a spin by Trevor Dassow on lap 22. Ascher again held onto
the lead as racing resumed as Keith went to work on Eckhardt for
second while Braun also worked his way around Eckhardt for third.
Over the final laps the best battle on the speedway was for fifth
between Dragich, Apel, Ratajczyk, and Jon Ovadal. On the final lap,
contact between Dragich and Apel sent Apel spinning around as Ascher
drove to the victory over Keith and Braun. Eckhardt finished in
fourth while Ratajczyk edged Ovadal for the fifth spot. David
McCardle was the winner of the limited late model fast dash.
Qualifying for the division was rained out.
Kenny Joosten charged to the win in the 30-lap Midwest Sportsman
Series feature, leading the event from start to finish.
Joosten raced into the lead from the start ahead of Mike Graczkowski
and Jeff Holtz occupying the second and third positions
respectively. Behind the top three, Mike Borchardt and Dave Thomas
raced in fourth and fifth just ahead of Bobby Giers and Jay Shambeau.
While Joosten continued to lead, Graczkowski and Holtz ran nose to
tail in an effort to catch the leader while Thomas moved into
fourth. The only caution flag of the race flew on lap 21 when Shawn
Hoefler spun in turn three and collected Scott Shambeau. Joosten
chose the inside lane for the restart, leaving Graczkowski to line
up on the outside. Joosten went back to the lead as racing resumed
but the outside lane proved to be detrimental to Graczkowski as
Holtz and Thomas both raced by on the inside. Joosten took the
checkered flag for the win ahead of Holtz and Thomas while Bobby
Giers and Jay Shambeau rounded out the top five finishers. Joosten
also won the Midwest Sportsman Series fast dash and qualifying for
the division was rained out.
Steve Schulz was the winner of the 25-lap Midwest Modified main
event over Joey Bentfield and Russ Moberly.
Matt Pate led in the early going over Bill Tandetzke, Ron Schmitt,
Schulz, and Bentfield. Pate paced the first five laps while being
challenged heavily by Tandetzke and Schulz. The fierce battle for
the lead produced some extremely hard racing and Pate came out on
the short end of the situation as he spun around on lap six as the
race remained under the green flag. Schulz took over the lead as
Bentfield raced into second place as Tandetzke slipped into a battle
with Steve Huelsbeck over third. Huelsbeck and Tandetzke fought hard
for the spot and contact between the two on lap 16 looped both
machines around in turn four as the race continued without a caution
flag. Schulz found himself comfortably out front in the closing laps
over Bentfield while Russ Moberly, Ron Schmitt, and Craig Hemmen
moved into the top five. At the finish, Schulz scored the victory
over Bentfield, who finished a strong second. Moberly wrapped up a
good run with a third place finish while Schmitt and Hemmen
completed the top five. Earlier in the night, Bentfield took top
honors in the Midwest Modified fast dash. Qualifying for the
division was rained out.
John Daley raced to his first win of the season in the wild 18-lap
Thunderstock feature.
Jacob Sproehlich led the opening lap before Jake Larson took the top
spot the next lap. Larson paced the event until lap eight when Al
Stippich went three wide around a lapped car to take the lead.
Stippich’s pass was deemed to be made below the yellow line at the
inside of the track and he was sent to the rear of the field,
handing the lead back to Larson. Larson led for the next two laps
before John Daley charged by to take command on lap 12. Daley led
the rest of the way and scored the victory over Jim Bentzler and
Aaron Cain. Jesse Knutson finished fourth while Stippich charged all
the way back to fifth place at the finish.
Jason Hennes won the 18-lap Slinger Bees feature over Matt Westphal
and Matt Klenz. Brandon Tackes and Ken Schraufnagel rounded out the
top five. Craig Ostovich was the winner of the Speedway Guest Car
race and C.J. Corrallini topped the Spectator Eliminator races. Rick
Bruskiewicz topped the Figure 8 race to cap off the evening.
