Slinger Speedway and Liberty Tax Service are Collecting Used Cell Phones on
9-11-05 For Cell Phones for Soldiers Organization

By Todd Thelen

September 3, 2005; Slinger, WI -  Have you upgraded your cell phone with more bells and whistles? Wondering what to do with that functional but not so fancy used cell phone? Bring it to the Slinger Speedway on Sept. 11 and help soldiers call home.

Slinger Speedway is working with Liberty Tax Service - a National Premier Partner associated with the Cell Phones for Soldiers organization. This organization is dedicated to helping soldiers stationed in Iraq and overseas afford to call loved ones. Every donated phone can buy a calling card up to 100 minutes.

“Our franchisees were very excited to be involved in this collection project,” said John Hewitt, CEO and Founder of Liberty Tax Service. “Liberty will ship all phone donations to Cell Phones for Soldiers.”

The concept was the brainstorm of thirteen-year old Brittany Bergquist and her twelve year-old brother Robbie of Norwell, Massachusetts. They were disturbed after hearing a news story about an American soldier in Iraq with a staggering phone bill. They started Cell Phones for Soldiers (www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com) with snack money, and have recruited sponsors and cell phone companies to help. The website has details for those who would like to make cash donations.

Liberty Tax Service has over 1,800 offices operating in the United States and Canada. The locally owned Menomonee Falls office is working with the Slinger Speedway on this project. Liberty provides free* income tax preparation courses, free tax advice and free checking of self-prepared returns at each office. The Liberty Tax Service web site is www.libertytax.com.
