Miller Lite set to present the Twin 75's Spring Opener
at Slinger Super Speedway!
By Cortney Owen

Slinger, WI - April 9, 2003 -  On April 27, 2003 racing action at the World’s Fasted Quarter Mile Paved Oval will commence and a new track record could likely be set during the Miller Lite Twin 75’s spring opener. Edgerton native Rich Bickle will join the winners of the 2002 Miller Lite Twin 75’s, Eric Fransen & Brad Mueller, along with an impressive field of competitors in the 2-part chase for the checkered flags. As a long time sponsor of the track, Miller Brewing Co. will present the special event which will include competition in the Late Model and new Midwest Sportsman divisions.

In October of 2002, Slinger Super Speedway’s track owner and promoter, Wayne Erickson, resurfaced all four corners of the track in order to smooth the surface and create faster lap times. “We’re going to see cars gaining speeds particularly through Turns 3 & 4,” said Erickson, “where the surface was a bit bumpy from racing during the summer heat following the 1996 asphalting of the track”. Track resurfacing could pave the way for a driver to break the current track record set by Tony Strupp on June 12, 1994 when Strupp navigated the high banks of Slinger Super Speedway in 11.095 seconds. One notable competitor is not quite as sure that the track record will be broken this season. “The track is without a doubt more smooth,” commented 6-time Late Model track champion Conrad Morgan, “but I just don’t know if the grinding procedure, which removed some of the asphalt oil from the track, will allow a driver to break the record.”

Rich Bickle will revisit the speedway in hopes to claim part of the night’s purse which will include up to $4,000.00 to win and $500.00 to start. Bickle, who won the Slinger Super Speedway Nationals in 1992 and 1996, had two solid years in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 1996 and 1997, winning three races and finishing second in the NCTS points chase in ’97, driving for Darrell Waltrip. Additional drivers slated to compete in the afternoon’s event will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tickets for the Slinger Super Speedway spring opener are now on sale at the speedway office and at Pioneer Plaza in Richfield. Adult tickets will be available for $14 in advance and $16 on the day of the event. Student tickets for children ages 10-15 will be $8 and children ages 9 and under will receive free admission to each round when accompanied by an adult. Gates for the afternoon’s event open at 12 noon and the time trials will be held at 1:00pm with racing at 2:00pm!

The 2003 Miller Lite Twin 75’s Spring Opener is a special event and will kick off season-long, Sunday night action at Slinger Super Speedway. Nightly competition during the regular season schedule includes an event lineup of the Late Model, Midwest Modified, Midwest Sportsman, Figure 8, Team Cruisers and Slinger. Slinger Super Speedway’s schedule runs from April 27, 2003 through September 21, 2003. Advertising and sponsorship opportunities with the speedway still exist for the 2003 season.
