By Lanae Weyer

June 11, 2000; Slinger, WI - A brand new Morgan found his way to Victory Lane Sunday night at the Slinger Super Speedway as Donavan Morgan, the son of six time track champion Conrad Morgan, held off his father to score his first career late model feature win in the Jasper Engine and Transmission 65 at Slinger Speedway.

First career Late Model win at Slinger! Donavan Morgan (#99) grabbed his first feature checkered and celebrates in the winner's circle with (L to R) Miss Slinger Jennifer Lynn, and Jasper Engines & Transmissions sponsors Gary Eisman, and Gary Kostritza

Donavan Morgan quickly moved from his fourth starting position into second place behind early leader Charlie Thon Jr. at the drop of the green flag and followed in Thon's tire tracks until lap nine when he edged his way by on the inside to take the lead.  Meanwhile Conrad Morgan raced his way into third place just behind the lead duo while Jamie Wallace and David Prunty battled for fourth place.

D. Morgan continued to set the pace while last week's feature winner Lowell Bennett made his presence in the top five known by moving around Prunty and Wallace and into fourth as the only caution of the event flew on lap 26 for debris on the track.

On the restart, C. Morgan was able to get the inside advantage on Thon and the two battled side by side for second as D. Morgan began to pull away. After several laps of trying, C. Morgan finally made the inside groove work to  take second from Thon and set his sights on his son for the lead.
But it was not to be as Conrad could only close to Donavan's rear bumper as Donavan held off his father to score his first ever late model feature victory at Slinger Speedway.   Bennett raced his way to a third place finish while Prunty and Thon rounded out the top five. After the event, Donavan was extremely happy as he jumped on the roof of his car, kissed the start/finish line and said concentration was the key to his victory.

"I looked in my rear view mirror once and almost got loose off the corner,  said the winner in Victory Lane. "After that I didn't't look in the mirror anymore." "We've been through so much at the beginning of the year, but we never gave up and with a lot of help we made it happen," stated Donavan.

Defending Midwest Modified champ Dennis Prunty (#1) is making a habit of winning this year!

Dennis Prunty took advantage of a loose running Chris Peterson and charged to the top spot with two laps to go to capture the win in the Midwest Modified 30 lap feature.  Lenny Gallenberg jumped out to the early lead from his second starting position and moved out to a healthy margin over Peterson who charged to second from the sixth starting spot. Gallenberg's big lead disappeared on lap eight when Scott Sobczyk's incident in turn three brought out the caution flag.

Shortly after the restart, Peterson moved by Gallenberg to take the lead as Prunty raced his way into the top five. Prunty continued his charge to the front and worked his way to second  while beginning  to close in the waning laps  as Peterson's car began to get loose off the corners.  Prunty caught Peterson and moved around him on the outside to take the lead on lap 28.  Prunty held on for the final two laps to take the win ahead of Peterson and Gallenberg. Brian Holtz and fast qualifier Dale Prunty were fourth and fifth respectively.

61100c.jpg (12272 bytes) Scott Ascher (#19) had reason to celebrate after winning the Slinger Stinger main event.  Asher had lost the lead to Lyle Messinger late in the race but fought back and regained the lead on the final lap of the feature event.  Asher then held on for the victory.

Scott Ascher barely edged Lyle Messinger by inches to win the Slinger Stinger feature.  Brad Hartman finished third ahead of Mike Graczkowski and John Henning.

The driving team of Mark and Ken Fogel won the Team Cruisers event while Mike Newlin took top honors in the Figure 8 race.  Eric Shaw won the Speedway Guest Car race and Tony Elsinger was the Spectator Race winner in his Corvette.
