Morgan Holds On for Fourth in a row at the Slinger Super Speedway!
By Daryl Schultz

August 1, 1999; Slinger, WI -  Conrad Morgan (Waukesha) held off Cindy Peterson (Butler) to claim the Johnsonville Foods 65, Sunday night, August 1st, at the Slinger Super Speedway. Morgan and Peterson were followed in the top five by Al Schill (Franklin) in third, Jeff Holtz (Franklin) fourth and David Prunty (Lomira) fifth.

Morgan sustained his stiffest challenge from Peterson, during his four race win streak, as he crossed the line less than 1 car length ahead. The third of 3 cautions flew on lap 47 as five cars littered the front stretch, stopping the race for the clean up. With Morgan leading the field back to green, Peterson rose to the challenge, sticking to the rear of the hottest driver in the State. She rode in the tire tracks of the defending track champion for the next 17 laps. As a last ditch effort, she pulled to the inside driving through 3 & 4. She made it up to his door exiting 4, but bobbled just slightly, allowing Morgan to the line by a ½ car to spare. Peterson carried the lead until lap 44, when Morgan made his winning pass. Peterson controlled the early action after she passed polesitter, Holtz on lap 6. Peterson earned the $100.00 bonus of the Mac Tools Half-Way Challenge, as she showed the point on lap 33 of the 65 lap event.

Morgan, who started tenth, gained two spots before even going green as Schill and Jeff Kendall (Montello) took the challenge of track promoter, Wayne Erickson. With Morgan’s win streak, any driver who starts behind Morgan and passes him on the track, gains a $500.00 bonus. No one was able to accomplish the feat, so Morgan pocketed a $100.00 bonus for beating the field.

John Zimmerman (Markesan) and Dan Mills (Menomonee Falls) finished one-two in the late model semi to earn transfer positions into the feature event. Zimmerman took the point on lap 4 and was never contested for the lead in the caution free race. Rounding out the top 5 was Jerry Mueller (Germantown) in third, Mike McCabe (Muskego) in fourth, and Rory Melbinger (Marshfield) in fifth.

Fred Winn (Milwaukee) won the 8 lap Mac Tools Trophy Dash and Schill was fast qualifier on the “World’s Fastest 1/4 Mile Oval” with a lap of 11.807 seconds.

A heated battle for the win was decided late, as lap traffic interrupted the two lead cars, during the 30 lap Midwest Modified feature. Dennis Prunty (Allenton) claimed the feature by accepting the yellow and checkered flag together, after contact between himself and points leader, Florian Wisinski (Greenfield). Following Prunty to the line was Chris Peterson (Cedarburg) in second, Mike Cayton (Butler) third, John Kruschel (Sussex) fourth, and Chris Harmon (East Troy) fifth.

On the white flag lap Prunty and Wisinski were door to door as the pair pulled up on a lap car in between corners 1 & 2. Carrying too much speed into the corner, Wisinski was forced into the side of Prunty, causing Prunty to become totally sideways. Some how Prunty pulled out of the apparent spin and crossed the line as both the yellow and checkered flags were displayed. Wisinski lead from lap 9 to lap 27, when Prunty moved up and the melee began. Prunty won the 8 lap Eldorado Trailer Sales Trophy Dash and Wisinski turned fast time for the modifieds, with a lap of 12.486 seconds.

Craig Loiselle (Milwaukee) won his first feature of the ‘99 season in the Slinger Stinger Street Stock Division. Loiselle and Michael Flairty (Jackson) lead the pack and remained one and two holding the rest of the field at bay for the entire race. The battle in the 16 lap feature was for third as no one could get around the side by side battle up front. Rounding out the top five was Roger Schmid (Stone Bank), Mike Pascavis (Sheboygan), and Peter Wiedmeyer (West Bend).

Dan Lauer (Sussex) and Dan Prunty (Lomira) each won their respective 8 lap heat race and John Henning (Cedarburg) was fast qualifier with a lap of 13.602 seconds.

Mark Ritger (St. Cloud) took home the checkered in the Figure 8 feature. Ritger stormed to the front late in the race to win his third feature of the season.

In other racing action, Mark and Ken Fogel won the Team Cruiser division, Kurt Grober won the Speedway Guest Cars and Luke Stubbs (Slinger) won the Spectator Elimination races.
